Umar completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Sydney in 2020 and joins Younes + Espiner Lawyers as a Law Graduate.
Umar is a passionate and driven individual with a keen interest in criminal law. His ongoing dedication to the practice of criminal law is exhibited in the numerous internships he has undertaken and his professional experiences during and after his studies. In 2019, Umar completed an internship at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where he provided legal assistance to the defence counsel representing Saif-Al Islam Gaddafi. Throughout 2020, Umar worked as a volunteer paralegal at the office of The Public Defenders (NSW) where he supported barristers on serious criminal matters including murder, terrorism, and financial crime. Umar’s most recent professional experience was as a Legal Support Officer at Legal Aid NSW where he provided legal and administrative support in the Commonwealth Crimes Unit.
In addition to his legal experience, Umar brings a sharp attention to detail, a client oriented approach, and a professional and ethical set of values that are in line with those of Younes + Espiner Lawyers.
